Serious Request 2010 Day #1
by Marlamin on 16/03/2011Since 2004, the the dutch radio station 3FM has done a yearly fundraiser for the Red Cross, the subject varying every year. Like all previous years, the station picks 3 of their DJs, and puts them in a glass house (het Glazen Huis) where they are not allowed to eat for about a week, only surviving on mostly disgusting juices.
I’ve been watching every year from 2004, and decided to actually go to Eindhoven (where the event was taking place) and check them out.
So here I was, in Eindhoven.
I listen to 3FM every day. When I wake up I eat in front of the TV, where the morning show of 3FM is being broadcast (with webcam) then on the way to work I tune in on my mobile, at work I switch the webcam back on, on the way back I tune in on my mobile again.. etc!
My favourite DJ on the station is Gerard Ekdom, otherwise known as Playbeckdom for his ability to playback any and every song. I actually bought his book a while back, which was a pretty good read. Naturally, knowing he was in the Glass House this year I brought it.
After waiting in line for a while I got him to sign it (50 euros went to the Red Cross for this to happen! ) Very excited about him signing the book, and actually having seen him in real life, I checked out Eindhoven itself. I don’t really have pictures of this and it was hellishly cold so I was back in the hotel (which was 2 minute away from the house itself) rather quickly!
You can see Gerard’s autograph on the left side (if my WordPress skills haven’t failed me). After returning to the hotel I quickly turned on the television to watch the continuous 24/7 livestream, while chatting on my laptop. When I was warmed up I went to grab some food at the hotel restaurant. The food was pretty good, and the restaurant was packed with other visitors to the event.
Stomach filled with warm steak, I decided to go back into the cold again. And very surprisingly, who did I see in the glass house? Bert!
Turns out all of the Sesame Street cast was visiting to donate some money to the Red Cross. Cool!
Here’s a video of said cast doing a song from the dutch Sesame Street.
Here’s one more picture from that evening.
